What are your thoughts on giving a stranger a hug in a public place?

I know I've passed by a couple of people givng out free hugs. The first one I flew by because I thought it was awkward to embrace a stranger. I felt more awkward not doing it after walking by. So when I came across another person giving out free hugs, I went for it and it felt good! Free hugs rock!
